Stijn BARTHOLOMEEUSEN

Stijn Bartholomeeusen, MD is an orthopaedic surgeon at  the AZ Herentals hospital in Belgium. He received additional training in training in France, Germany and the United states after finalization of his orthopaedic education in Belgium. He developed a special interest and competence for the treatment of degenerative knee disorders and is using both joint preserving (osteotomies) and joint replacement techniques (total and partial knee arthroplasty). He published several scientific papers concerning these topics and is an early adopter for the use of robotic assistance in total knee replacement.

BOGAERTS

Prof. Dr. Stijn Bogaerts is als staflid verbonden aan de dienst fysische geneeskunde en revalidatie van UZ Leuven. Hierbij is hij werkzaam te Pellenberg alsook op het Sportmedisch Adviescentrum (SMAC) op de campus van de faculteit bewegings- en revalidatiewetenschappen (“het sportkot”) in Leuven. Als sportarts verzorgt hij op het SMAC onder andere de medische begeleiding van verschillende topsportscholen (voetbal, volleybal, …) en ziet hij atleten uit verschillende sporten (volleybal, atletiek, voetbal, breakdance, …). Dit klinische werk combineert hij met wetenschappelijk onderzoek naar diagnostiek en behandeling van spier- en peesletsels. Verder geeft hij ook les aan KU Leuven binnen de faculteit geneeskunde en binnen de opleidingen LO&BW en kinesitherapie.

Steven CLAES

Steven Claes, MD, PhD (38) is an orthopaedic surgeon working in AZ Herentals Hospital in Belgium, with a specific expertise in knee instabilities, sports injuries and knee osteotomy. To date, he has performed extensive research on cruciate ligament injuries and knee osteotomy. In 2013, he obtained a Doctoral Degree in Biomedical Sciences at KULeuven University for innovative research on the knee’s Anterolateral Ligament (ALL). His research was awarded with the biennial John Joyce award at the ISAKOS congress in Toronto, Canada in 2013.

GEWILLIG

Prof. Dr. Marc Gewillig is hoofd Kindercardiologie UZ Leuven. Hij genoot zijn opleiding in Leuven, Londen UK, Boston en Tucson USA. Zijn interesse in ernstige aangeboren hartafwijkingen met optimalisatie van behandelingsstrategieën resulteerde in bijna 400 peer-reviewed artikels. Gedoseerde sport bij kinderen met een “ziek” hart is belangrijk en helend, maar ook belangrijk bij de algemene ontwikkeling van het gezonde kind. Hoe dit veilig te laten gebeuren is tevens zijn uitgesproken interesse.

Sofie GOEMINNE

Sofie Goeminne, MD is an orthopaedic surgeon at  the AZ Herentals hospital in Belgium, with a special interest in hand and wrist pathology. She obtained the diploma of the European Board of Hand Surgery in 2020. She is working on a PhD on carpal ligament lesions and her research mainly focuses on the scapholunate ligament and the kinematics of the wrist.

PLASSCHAERT

Prof. Dr. Frank Plasschaert works as a staff member at the Orthopaedics and Traumatology departments of UZ Gent and AZ Sint-Jan in Bruges since 2001. He is responsible for the orthopaedics and traumatology of children and adolescents.

Prof. Plasschaert is also a convention holder for the Cerebral Palsy Reference Centre of the UZ Gent, responsible for the movement analysis lab. Furthermore, he is a team member of the Spina bifida reference centre and the Neuromuscular reference centre.

SMETS

Joël Smets is a former motorcross champion. He won 5x the World Championship, 4 x Silver, 3 x Bronze, 6 x the Belgian Championship and 3 x the Countries World Championship

For the last 11 years, he is the national coach with 8 medals, of which 1 Gold.

Mike TENGROOTENHUYSEN

My name is Mike Tengrootenhuysen, MD, and I work as an Orthopedic surgeon at the General hospital of Herentals since 2012. My subspecialty is hip surgery and have a special interest in joint replacement surgery. This for both the primary cases and the more complex revision cases. I find these complex revision cases challenging and very rewarding and for that reason I love doing them.

VAN OOSTVELDT

Dr Van Oostveldt studeerde af in 2015 als sportarts aan de KULeuven.  Ze ging op zoek naar buitenlandse opleidingen en bijscholingen om zich verder te bekwamen in het vak en ervaring op te doen. Sinds haar eerste event als sportarts was de European Open tennis in 2017, heeft ze nu de medische permanentie onder haar hoede.  Ze was Teamarts van een pro continentale wielerploeg waar ze 2 jaar meedraaide om dan in tussentijd haar weg te banen in de nationale hockeyteams. In 2020 stonden de Olympische spelen op de agenda en kon ze de wielerploeg niet langer combineren met de agenda voor Tokyo 2020.  En toen kwam Corona … Intussen heeft ze vooral ervaring als teamarts, adviserend arts voor (inter)nationale federaties en commissies en verzorgt ze op evenementen de medische sideline preparedness. Door de jaren heen mocht ze nog enkele leuke sport disciplines aan haar palmares toevoegen: gymfed, rbfa wU16, volleybal, danssport, skate, motorsport. Als tiener was ze actief als outdoor monitor in de Ardennen met sporten zoals (rots)klimmen, mtb, kayak, boogschieten, speleo, trail running. Heden is ze docent geworden binnen de VTS voor het zeilen en het skien.

Dr Verfaillie works as an Orthopedic Surgeon at AZ Herentals hospital in Herentals, Belgium. He specializes in surgery of the Foot and Ankle . He has a special interest in Total Ankle Prosthesis.
He is member and treasurer of the Belgian foot and ankle  society.
He published several scientific papers concerning Foot and Ankle surgery.
Since 2020 he is head of the department orthopedics at AZ Herentals.
